NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG) has announced the completion of an energy technology project at NRG Park, home of the NFL’s Houston Texans’ NRG Stadium.
The 350-acre sports and entertainment complex recently saw the installation of solar panels, mobile phone power stations, electric vehicle charging stations, outdoor roof lighting and energy-efficient LED lights.
“NRG and Reliant are excited to enhance NRG Park so locals and visitors from around the world can experience first-hand new energy innovations that they might have heard or read about,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president of NRG Retail and Reliant. “We want to raise the bar for what consumers expect from their power company and inspire people to consider adopting energy innovations at home, at work and on-the-go.”
Hundreds of solar panels were installed atop two pedestrian bridges, above the stadium entrance and over the new NRG EVgo charging station lot, helping power the facilities. The installations are expected to generate 181 kW of renewable energy.
Furthermore, NRG Park now features seven NRG Street Charge Stations -- each a 12.5-foot tower equipped with solar panels and mobile device charging cables – including six NRG EVgo charging stations, available to visitors free of charge year-round.
