GE Acquires UK-Based Developer of Wind Turbine Blades

General Electric (NYSE: GE) has acquired the U.K.-based Blade Dynamics, a developer of modular blades for wind turbines.

Founded in 2007, Blade Dynamics has focused on onshore and offshore wind turbine blades, with facilities at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana and the south of England.

Earlier this year, Blade began testing the prototype of its 78-meter D78 offshore turbine blade at ORE Catapult’s National Renewable Energy Center in the U.K.

GE says those tests will continue until 2016, completing Blade’s commitments, and all technology moving forward will fall under the GE umbrella.
