Areva Supplying Nuclear Reactor Core Detectors for Arizona Power Plant

Areva Inc. will manufacture self-powered in-core detector assemblies (ICDAs) for a nuclear power plant in Arizona.
Areva will provide the detectors for Arizona Public Service Co.’s Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. The detectors provide real-time data of reactor core conditions, which helps operators detect and diagnose anomalies and enhance reactor operations.
The systems will be custom designed for Palo Verde and will be manufactured at Areva’s facility in Virginia. Areva delivered the first two in-core detectors to Palo Verde earlier this month and will deliver 54 more by the end of the year.
