Aquatech Chosen to Develop Water Treatment Facility for China Coal-to-Liquid Fuels Conversion Project

Aquatech announced Tuesday it would provide a water treatment facility for a coal-to-liquid (CTL) fuels conversion project in northwest China.

A leader in water purification technology, Aquatech was awarded the contract to design, engineer and supply the integrated water facility, developed by Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Co. Ltd., as well as supervise installation and commissioning.

The facility includes a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant, which will recycle more than 55 million liters of wastewater per day generated by the 4-million-tons-per-year CTL plant, eliminating all wastewater discharge.  The water will be treated to a high purity level so it can be recycled and reused.

Aquatech will supply a fully-integrated, automated system developed for the CTX Market, which utilizes state-of-the-art AquaEZ technology, including conventional UFRO, High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis (HERO), Unseeded Falling Film evaporators and crystallizers at the backend to achieve complete zero liquid discharge.

Aquatech will also provide post-treatment of the recycled water with an ion exchange process so the water achieves the high purity level and can be reused, minimizing the company’s overall water footprint.

Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Co. Ltd. is a division of Shenhua Group, China’s largest coal producer.
