Amec Foster Wheeler to Study Fukushima Nuclear Waste Management

Amec Foster Wheeler will perform a major study into managing radioactive waste at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan.
The company will assist Japan’s Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corp. (NDF) to develop a long-term waste management strategy for the site. A specialist project team that has carried out similar services for the U.K. Nuclear Decommissioning Authority at the Sellafield site will perform the review.
The team will identify practical planning tools to support future development of a waste management strategy at Fukushima, design case studies to demonstrate how the tools can be applied to deliver the best option to deal with the waste and run workshops based on the case studies to provide NDF staff with hands-on, practical training.
