Younicos Developing Texas' 1st Utility-Scale Solar-Plus Storage System

A German energy storage company will develop Texas’ first utility-scale solar-plus storage project.

Younicos has announced a contract with OCI Solar to design, engineer and construct a 1-MW turnkey battery storage system for an OCI solar array.  The location hasn’t been revealed but operations are expected to begin in early 2016.

Younicos says this project is the first use of LG Chem battery technology in the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market.

This is Younicos’ second recently-announced Texas project.  In June, Duke Energy chose the company to upgrade a West Texas wind-integrated storage system – the nation’s largest – along with Samsung SDI.
