Sempra Energy Names New Executive VP of External Affairs

Sempra Energy names SDG&E COO Steven D. Davis as new executive VP of external affairs

Jessie J. Knight Jr. Jessie J. Knight Jr, executive vice president of external affairs for Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE) and chairman of Southern California Gas Co. and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), announced his retirement effective Nov. 1.
Steven D. Davis, current president and chief operating officer of SDG&E, will succeed Knight effective Sept. 26. In his new role, Davis will oversee all of Sempra Energy’s communications, government relations, regulatory and international affairs activities, as well as corporate social responsibility and long-term strategy review. Knight will stay on in his current positions until his retirement.
Knight became chairman of SoCalGas in March 2014. He previously was CEO of SDG&E from 2010 to 2014, and joined Sempra Energy as executive vice president of external affairs in 2006. He holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin.
Davis has been with Sempra Energy and its affiliates for 35 years. He has served as president and COO of SDG&E since January 2014. He previously was Sempra’s senior vice president of external affairs from 2012 to 2014. He graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from San Diego State University.
