Sempra Adding 100 MW of Green Energy to Total Capacity of its Mesquite Solar Complex

Sempra Energy subsidiary Sempra U.S. Gas & Power is adding 100 MW of green energy to the existing capacity of the company’s Mesquite Solar Complex in Arlington, Ariz.

The complex, 60 miles west of Phoenix, has a total potential capacity of 700 MW.

Mesquite Solar 1 generates enough clean electricity to power 56,000 homes, and under a 20-year power purchase agreement Sempra sold 150 MW of power generated from the unit to Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

Mesquite Solar 2 and Solar 3 are under construction, both expected to be finished by late 2016.

The entirety of Solar 2’s output is being sold to Southern California Edison under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Sempra Energy currently operates 718 MW of solar energy across the U.S.
