Petrovietnam selects GE's high-efficiency steam turbines for new coal-fired power plant

GE is supplying two sets of high-efficiency steam turbines and generators for Petrovietnam’s new coal-fired thermal power plant in Soc Trang.

Long Phu 1 -- the first of three power stations planned for Long Phu Power Center -- is one of Vietnam’s first coal-fired plants to use technology for power generation that is more efficient and environmentally friendly.

The facility will use two GE D850 steam turbines, and once online Long Phu 1 will generate 1,200 MW -- enough to supply power to about 4 million Vietnamese homes.

GE is expected to begin delivering the first set of steam turbines and generators in late 2016, and the plant should be fully operational by the end of 2018.
