MHPSA gas turbine chosen for new 525-MW facility in Ohio

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MHPSA) will supply a natural gas-powered turbine for a new 525-MW facility in the Midwest.

NTE Energy’s Middletown Energy Center in Middletown, Ohio is slated to go online April 2018. NTE chose MHPSA’s M501GAC gas turbine for the facility, which is expected to produce enough electricity to serve 400,000 homes.

“The NTE award is another example of the industry’s recognition of our leadership in advanced technology gas turbines,” said MHPSA CEO David Walsh in a news release.  “The company continues to expand its leading position in large capacity units in North America.”

The Middletown Energy Center is expected to provide a number of benefits, including a reliable source of energy for growing demand.

“The timing is right,” said Denise Hamet, Middletown’s economic development director.  “The Middletown Energy Center will provide us with the reliable power we need to meet the demand brought about by the new investments from various sectors including steel, chemical, aerospace and others.”

According to MHPSA, the M501G fleet has logged more than 2 million operating hours by users across the globe.
