Capstone Microturbine to Power Silica Manufacturer in Italy

California microturbine manufacturer Capstone Turbine has finalized an order for a C1000 microturbine, which will upgrade the processing plant at a silica manufacturing facility in Italy.
The 1-MW, natural gas-fired microturbine will be used in a combined heat and power application that will provide baseload power to the manufacturing facility in addition to providing heat to dry the silica during production.
The C1000 is modular and can be expanded to accommodate increased load. It does not rely on oil or other lubricating liquids during operation, which minimizes maintenance and increases up time.
Using the new microturbine, the Italian manufacturer is expected to save up to 30 percent in energy costs and benefit from high efficiency incentives provided by the Italian state. Annual emissions will be reduced by more than 1,700 tons with an expected investment payback of less than two years.
The project is expected to be commissioned in December of this year.
