MHPSA’s first three M501GAC gas turbines from its SMW facility surpass 15,000 hours

The first three gas turbines manufactured at Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas’ (MHPSA) Savannah Machinery Works (SMW) facility have surpassed 15,000 cumulative actual operating hours (AOH) in the first 8 months of operation, and are well on their way to completing their first year of commercial operation.

All three M501GAC gas turbines are in service at Dominion Virginia Power’s Warren County Power Station, just north of Front Royal, VA. The Dominion units are the most recent addition to the highly successful M501G fleet and are adding to the 2.8 million operating hours already logged by users around the world.

The 1,329 megawatt Warren County Power Station began commercial operation on December 10, 2014, and is one of the key features of Dominion Virginia Power’s strategy for meeting its growing demand for additional generation. The site is the first to have U.S. manufactured M501GACs reach commercial operation in North America.

To date, SMW has produced 10 gas turbines and 5 steam turbines for operation in North America. Dominion Virginia Power also has two more projects that will feature six more SMW manufactured gas turbines. Dominion’s Brunswick County Power Station will utilize three M501GAC gas turbines and is set to begin operation in the summer of 2016. A third power plant, the planned Greensville County Power Station, will be one of the first in North America to operate the highly efficient M501J gas turbine.
