 Preferred bidders picked for new UK nuclear power project

EDF Energy announced more preferred bidders for construction of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power project in the UK.
 
It is now estimated that more than 60 percent of the construction costs will be paid to UK firms, up from an initial estimate of 57 percent. The preferred bidders with a combined contract of more than £1.3 billion ($2 billion) are:
 
·      Balfour Beatty Bailey, a joint venture of Balfour Beatty and NG Bailey, for electrical cabling and equipment installation,
·      Cavendish Boccard Nuclear, a joint venture of Cavendish Nuclear and France-based Boccard, for mechanical pipework and equipment installation,
·      Actan, a joint venture comprising of Doosan Babcock, and France-based companies Axime Concept and Tunzini Nucleaire, on heating, ventilation and air conditioning,
·      Laing O’Rourke, on construction of workers’ campus accommodation,
·      ABB UK, power transmission,
·      Premier Interlink WACO UK Ltd., construction of temporary buildings,
·      Weir, large pumps for cooling water, and
·      SPX ClydeUnion Pumps, main pumps for feedwater system and cooling water system.
Two other companies, G4S and Aggregate Industries, are currently working on the project. G4S provides security, while Aggregate Industries is building roads and improving the highways. Project management contracts have been signed with several companies: KBR, Jacobs, Gleeds, Faithful+Gould, Turner and Townsend and Mace.
 
EDF Energy has invested £11 million ($17.1 million) in workforce training, education and skills with the opening of a new Energy Skills Centre and a Construction Skills Centre in partnership with Bridgwater College.
