The Barakah 2 nuclear unit is about 50 percent complete and is expected to begin commercial operations by 2018, according to The National. The reactor vessel houses the fuel assemblies and coolant and is considered one of the most important parts of the reactor.

Barakah 1 is approximately 73 percent complete and scheduled to begin operations in 2017. Units 3 and 4 are expected to begin operations in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
