Brazilian company to manufacture Westinghouse nuclear reactor equipment

Westinghouse Electric Co. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Brazilian company to jointly fabricate AP1000 nuclear reactor components and equipment in Brazil.

The MOU with Nuclebras Equipamentos Pesados S.A. (NUCLEP) focuses on developing local technical capabilities. Building AP1000s in Brazil would create jobs, expand industrial capabilities and support the next generation of nuclear professionals who will deploy nuclear energy.

Westinghouse helped to build the Angra 1 reactor in Brazil, and supplies technical support to Eletronuclear’s fleet and has a partnership with Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil on fuel and manufacturing technologies.
