Terrestrial Energy to advance molten salt reactor design

Terrestrial Energy Inc. is teaming with the Dalton Nuclear Institute at the University of Manchester in the UK to work on its Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) design.

The Dalton Nuclear Institute will work with Terrestrial Energy on advancing the IMSR to the construction and licensing phase, expected in early 2017. The reactor is a Generation IV design that is grid- and water-independent, scalable and is made for small- to medium-sized electricity markets.

In January, Terrestrial Energy collaborated with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee to bring the reactor to the engineering stage.
