GE to supply energy storage system in Ontario

Convergent Energy + Power will use a GE (NYSE: GE) 7-MWh battery energy storage system for the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).

The system includes GE’s Mark VI plant control system with SCADA, Brilliance MW Inverters, packaged lithium ion battery modules, medium-voltage transformers and switchgear integration. The storage system is expected to help IESO balance longer duration voltage and frequency irregularities in the area. The contract includes delivery of all equipment and installation support plus GE performance guarantees. Commercial operation is expected by fall 2016.

GE announced in April that it would supply an 8-MWh energy storage project in California to Con Edison Development.
