Southern Power acquires 32MW solar project from First Solar

Southern Co. (NYSE: SO) subsidiary, Southern Power, has acquired controlling interest in the 32-MW Lost Hills-Blackwell Solar Facility in California from First Solar. Remaining interest in the project will be owned by a First Solar affiliate.

The Lost Hills-Blackwell Solar Facility spreads throughout 308 acres on two sites in Kern County: the 20-MW Lost Hills Solar Facility and the 12-MW Blackwell Solar Facility. The project features more than 454,000 of First Solar's photovoltaic (PV) solar modules.

Upon completion, the facility will be operated and maintained by First Solar. Electricity and associated renewable energy credits generated by the facility will be sold to Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) and Roseville Electric under long-term power purchase agreements.

The project is expected to be completed shortly after the acquisition.
