China OKs nuclear reactor design

China's CAP1400 nuclear reactor

The Chinese government approved construction of the country’s first domestically designed nuclear reactor.

The State Council said it had approved the first demonstration unit of the Hualong-1 nuclear reactor, according to The Wall Street Journal. There is no word on when construction will start or when the reactor will begin operations. Government-backed nuclear companies developed the reactor.
