Burns & McDonnell earned nuclear certification in order to perform work at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico.

The firm received Nuclear Quality Assurance-1 (NQA-1) certification from the Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration, which allows Burns & McDonnell the capability to design and construct nuclear power plants in the U.S. The firm said it plans to build two redundant power supply systems for LANL under the company’s nuclear quality assurance program. The building will be built over an 18-month period and will include construction of a nuclear-qualified concrete structure, HVAC, electrical systems and two redundant safety class Uninterruptible Power Supply systems.
