 Beaver Valley nuclear unit taken offline for scheduled refueling, maintenance outage

FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co.’s (FENOC, NYSE: FE) 939-MW Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 1 in Shippingport, Pennsylvania, has been taken offline for a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage.

While the unit is offline, 61 of the 157 fuel assemblies will be replaced and numerous safety inspections will be conducted. Additionally crews will work on major components including the plant's three steam generators, various pumps, valves and the cooling tower.

More than 1,000 temporary contractor workers and FENOC and FirstEnergy employees will be onsite during the outage.

The last refueling outage for Unit 1 occurred in November 2013.
