Up to 400 jobs at the Hinkley Point C nuclear project site have been cut as work stops at the site.
Plant developer EDF Energy said it will not begin the next phase of work at the plant until it finalizes project financing, according to Reuters. The company said preparatory work at the site is completed, and the next step is the beginning of construction.
EDF is working on a financial deal with two Chinese investors, China General Nuclear Corp. (CGNC) and China National Nuclear Corp. (CNNC), which could result in a 30 percent stake for both companies. Talks also continue with Areva for a potential 10 percent stake in the project.
There are currently 800 staff on site, and 250 contractors will remain if the other jobs are cut, the article said.
