Southern Power buys Oklahoma wind power project

Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO), will acquire a wind power project in Oklahoma.
Southern Power acquired the 299-MW Kay Wind project from Apex Clean Energy. The deal is expected to close in late 2015 once the project is completed. Apex Clean Energy is building the project and will operate and maintain it. Blattner Energy Inc. is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor. The project will use 130 Siemens (NYSE: SI) wind turbines. The renewable energy credits generated by the project will be sold under 20-year power purchase agreements with Westar Energy Inc. in Kansas (199 MW) and the Grand River Dam Authority in Oklahoma (100 MW).
With the addition of the Kay wind project, Southern Power will own more than 970 MW of renewable energy capacity already in operation or under development.
