FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), has elected Samuel Belcher to president and chief nuclear officer (CNO), replacing Peter Sena. Currently, Belcher serves as senior vice president (SVP) and chief operating officer (COO) of FENOC. In his new position, he will oversee FENOC's nuclear fleet and work with industry leaders to enhance nuclear performance in the U.S.
Belcher joined FENOC in December 2012 from Constellation Energy Nuclear Group, where he was SVP of Site Operations. Previously, he served as site vice president and plant general manager at Constellation's Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station. Belcher earned a bachelor of science degree in Engineering from Arkansas Tech University.
Additionally, Paul Harden was elected to SVP and COO of FENOC and will report to Belcher. Currently, he serves as SVP of Fleet Engineering for FENOC. In the new role, Harden will focus on the on safety and reliability of the company’s nuclear fleet.
Harden joined FirstEnergy in January 2008 as vice president of Fleet Support, before being named site vice president for the Beaver Valley Power Station. He also held several leadership positions in operations and engineering at the Palisades and Kewaunee nuclear power plants. He received a bachelor of science degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a masters of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.
The new roles will go into effect March 8, 2015.
