Dominion Va. Power proposes $1 bn, natural gas-fired power plant

Dominion Virginia Power (NYSE: D) said the company is proposing to build a $1 billion, 1,600-MW natural gas-fired power plant in Greensville County.
The combined-cycle power plant will use three gas-fired combustion turbines and a steam turbine. It is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs at peak construction and be operational in 2019.
Dominion said it plans to submit its application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to the State Corporation Commission in July. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2016, subject to regulatory and environmental approvals. The company is building a 1,300-MW combined-cycle power plant just 4.5 miles away in Brunswick County that is about 58 percent complete.
