Samsung, Pattern Energy and Six Nations complete Ontario wind power project

Siemens plans electrolyzer system to store wind power as hydrogen

Samsung Renewable Energy Inc. (Samsung) and Pattern Energy Group Inc. (Pattern Energy)’s 149-MW Grand Renewable Wind project, in Ontario, has reached commercial operation.

“Wind provides clean, emission-free electricity for Ontarians while creating thousands of jobs and economic opportunities,” said Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Energy. “Collaborative projects like this one will help wind reach 15 per cent of the province’s installed capacity by 2025.”
Grand Renewable Wind features 67 Siemens (NYSE: SI) 2.3-MW wind turbines. The site had more than 500 workers during peak construction; and 12 full-time permanent positions, for ongoing operations and maintenance, have been created.
Power produced from the site will be sold to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
