First Wind wind turbine gearboxes to be rebuilt

First Wind contracted Germany-based Winergy Drive Systems Corp. (WDSC) to rebuild gearboxes for some of the company’s Clipper wind turbines across the U.S.

As part of the multi-year contract, WDSC will remanufacture the gearboxes by replacing parts with new components and completing a full-load test before returning it back to the customer. WDSC’s North American production plant was founded in 2001.

First Wind originally purchased the turbines from Clipper Windpower.
