Dungeness B nuclear power plant can operate another decade

The Dungeness B nuclear power plant was granted a 10-year life extension, plant owner EDF Energy announced.
The plant can now operate until 2028 thanks to a £150 million ($227.2 million) investment program to extend the life of the reactor. The life extension is part of an EDF Energy program to extend the lives of its eight nuclear power plants to operate in 2023 when the Hinkley Point C reactor is expected to be completed. The extension came after extensive reviews of the plant’s safety cases and work with the UK’s Office for Nuclear Regulation.
Improvement projects at Dungeness include a £75 million ($113.6 million) upgrade to the control room computer systems and £8 million ($12.1 million) in enhanced flood defenses.
