Emerson Process Management will install its Ovation control technology at a 1,075-MW ultra-supercritical, coal-fired unit of Poland’s Kozienice Power Station. The contract was awarded by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS), the EPC contractor for the project.
Located in Świerże Górne, the 2,900-MW Kozienice Power Station is comprised of 10 units, and is the second largest power generating facility in Poland.
Emerson’s Ovation system will control all major components of the plant, including the boiler and turbine. These tight controls of the plant’s equipment and balance-of-plant processes will help to ensure more reliable and efficient operation of the facility.
Supercritical technologies can boost the efficiency of coal-based generation by approximately 40 percent. They can also reduce carbon and other emissions. However, the technologies can be more difficult to control due to high temperatures and pressures. This makes Emerson’s Ovation system all the more important. To date, Ovation technology has been installed on nearly 100 of these complex systems worldwide.
Emerson will also provide an Ovation Safety Instrumented System to meet SIL3 requirements for boiler protection, electrical control via native IEC 61850 modules, an Ovation high-fidelity simulator, and AMS Suite predictive maintenance software.
