The wind park sits on nearly 16,000 acres and is the fourth wind park to be owned and operated by DTE Energy.
In addition, Echo Wind Park is DTE's first wind energy project that will tie into a new 345,000-V transmission system built to handle all the renewable energy flowing onto the electric grid.
DTE has set a goal to add nearly 1,000-MW, or 10 percent of its customers' electricity needs, by 2015. About 95 percent of its renewable portfolio will come from wind energy.
With the commissioning of the Echo Wind Park, DTE's renewable energy portfolio is at 9.6 percent.
