Siemens affiliate to build U.S. government's largest wind farm

The National Nuclear Security Administration, under the Department of Energy, contracted Siemens Government Technologies Inc. to construct and operate the planned 11.5 MW Pantex wind farm, said to be the U.S. government’s largest wind farm.

The wind project will be built near the Pantex nuclear fuel fabrication facility in Texas and will use five Siemens (NYSE: SI) 2.3 MW turbines. Siemens will provide a turnkey wind farm system for 20 years that includes a five-year service, maintenance and warranty agreement with operating and maintenance options from years six through ten.

The wind farm will help NNSA meet almost all of its renewable energy goals while offering research opportunities to students at Texas Tech University and other collaborators.
