BrightSource, SoCalEdison end solar power purchase agreement

BrightSource Energy and Southern California Edison (SCE) have terminated a power purchase agreement for the 500 MW Rio Mesa 2 solar power project in California.

According to the Oakland Tribune newspaper, BrightSource also asked the California Energy Commission to suspend permitting activities for the adjacent Rio Mesa 1 solar plant. The article quoted a BrightSource spokesperson as saying there were a number of areas at the Rio Mesa site that would require additional analysis.

The California Public Utilities Commission approved two amended contracts with SCE to purchase power from the Rio Mesa and Sonoran West sites in November 2012.
