SolarReserve opens office in Australia


California-based SolarReserve announced it has expanded into Australia through opening an office in Perth. The company, a developer of large-scale solar power projects and advanced solar thermal technology, is planning to pursue both concentrating solar power and photovoltaic projects with an emphasis toward opportunities in the off-grid mining sector.

SolarReserve CEO Kevin Smith said the best solar resources in Australia are commonly found in remote areas where mines operate, presenting the off-grid mining sector the opportunity to offset the price of electricity generation with solar energy.

The company also hired Daniel Thompson as director of development for Australia. Thompson, who has more than 10 years of energy sector experience in power generation and renewable energy project development in Australia, will be based in the Perth office and lead the company’s development activities in the region.
