Nuclear and renewable energy agreements signed by Areva

Areva signed several agreements with different partners to develop nuclear and renewable energy.

Areva signed a letter of intent with China National Nuclear Corp. in front end fuel activities to study the creation of a joint venture to develop a facility for the fabrication and conversion of zirconium alloy in China.

China General Nuclear Power Corp. (CGN) and Areva will also identify opportunities in offshore wind, biomass, concentrated solar power and energy storage. CGN will invest, develop and operate wind farm in China and Europe and Areva will provide its expertise as an offshore wind turbine manufacturer.

Areva, in consortium with Siemens (NYSE: SI), also signed a contract to supply instrumentation and control (I&C) systems for the Fuqing 5 and 6 reactors. Both units are 1,000 MWe pressurized water reactors. China Nuclear Power Engineering is scheduled to begin construction on Unit 5 in 2014, and Unit 6 the following year. The units will be equipped with the Teleperm XS digital safety I&C system supplied by Areva.
