AEP coal-fired power plants to use emissions control equipment

Hitachi Power Systems America signed an agreement with American Electric Power (AEP, NYSE: AEP) to provide selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst for AEP’s SCR Fleet.

Hitachi Power Systems America will design, engineer and supply catalyst for the SCR’s at nine of AEP’s coal-fired power plants, totaling more than 13,000 MW of generation. Deliveries are scheduled to run from 2014 through 2017.

In addition to the catalyst technology, AEP will also have access to Hitachi’s boiler and SCR system experience. This agreement is the second extension of the original catalyst blanket contract that began more than eight years ago.
