AEP board names Akins as chair


The Board of Directors of American Electric Power (AEP, NYSE: AEP) elected Nicholas Akins as chairman of the board. Akins is the company’s president and chief executive officer.

Akins will be chairman effective Jan. 1, 2014. He replaced Michael Morris as president and CEO in 2011. Morris will be stepping down as non-executive chair of the AEP board by the end of 2013, but will remain a member of the board until the next annual meeting of shareholders in April 2014.
