Siemens to supply natural gas-fired combined-cycle turbines and generators two power blocks Gemma Power Systems Panda Power Funds

Siemens (NYSE: SI) received a $400 million order for two power plant blocks for the planned 829 MW Liberty combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant in Pennsylvania, owned by Panda Power Funds.

Siemens will deliver two H-class gas turbines, two steam turbines, two generators, two heat recovery steam generators and the electrical equipment and the control system for the plant. All of the equipment will be built at Siemens’ North American manufacturing hub in Charlotte, N.C. Gemma Power Systems LLC is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor.

The project, which Panda acquired from Moxie Energy, is the fourth financing of a large-scale power facility by Panda Power Funds in the past 13 months. According to Panda, the plant will be the first in the state developed to take advantage of its proximity to the Marcellus Shale gas formation.

Construction will begin immediately on the plant, which is expected to begin commercial operation in 2016.
