MidAmerican Energy names five sites for Iowa wind energy

MidAmerican Energy named five Iowa counties where the company will build 1,050 MW of wind generation, according to Platts.

The company said it secured development and interconnection rights for sites in Grundy, Madison, Marshall, O’Brien and Webster counties, according to the report. Construction is expected to begin in September and be completed by the end of 2015.

According to Platts, the Iowa Utilities Board approved a settlement that resolves any issues raised by the consumer advocate and set returns on equity for the projects. Facebook’s new data center in Altoona, Iowa will use the output from the plants.

MidAmerican announced in May that it was planning a $1.9 billion wind expansion in Iowa, bringing the company’s amount of wind energy owned in the state to 3,335 MW once the projects are completed.
