Bechtel completes Canadian electric power transmission project

Bechtel Hanna Region Transmission Development Alberta Canada ATCO Electric

Bechtel completed the 219-mile Hanna Region Transmission Development (HRTD) expansion project for ATCO Electric in Alberta, Canada.

The project including stringing 219 miles of 240 kV and 144 kV transmission lines, constructing more than 1,200 transmission towers and building six new substations and upgrading 12 substations. About 60 percent of the area where the transmission line was built passed through protected pasture, native grasses and wetlands. In order to minimize the impact, the project team used a mobile application to provide customized information about accessing land parcels and environmental regulations.

Bechtel is now building approximately 300 miles of 500 kV high voltage direct current transmission line that runs from northeast of Edmonton to southeast of Calgary.
