China’s Hanergy Holding Group Ltd. has announced it has acquired U.S. solar panel production company Global Solar Energy Inc. The purchase marks Hanergy’s third overseas purchase of a solar company in the copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) field in the past year, following acquisitions of Solibro and MiaSole.
“The acquisition of GSE marks another landmark deal for us after MiaSole and Solibro,” Hanergy Chairman Li Hejun stated in a release. “Together these complete the circle of Hanergy’s global technology integration strategy, meaning we now have the ability to accelerate the development and large-scale application of our high-efficiency flexible CIGS modules.”
According to Hanergy, GSE is one of the few producers capable of manufacturing flexible CIGS solar cells on a commercial scale in the world.
GSE will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hanergy and continue its operation in the U.S.
