PPL Montana dedicated a 60 MW powerhouse at its Rainbow hydroelectric plant near Great Falls. The dedication brought to a close a $245 million redevelopment project that replaced an older powerhouse and increased generating capacity by 70 percent.
Construction began in 2009 and was completed in April. The project also included replacing 23 miles of 100 kV power lines, substation upgrades at five Great Falls hydroelectric plants and installation of a new Crooked Falls switchyard.
