Tucson Electric Power rate increase, energy efficiency program approved

The Arizona Corporation Commission has approved new rates for Tucson Electric Power customers. The new rates will take effect July 1.

The company stated the average monthly bill of a residential customer with a usage of about 800 kWh is expected to increase by less than $4. The rate increase, which is TEP’s first since 2008, will allow the company to recover costs of investments resulting in greater system reliability and improved safety performance.

The rate structure includes simplified time-of-use rates that allow customers to pay less for power at certain times of the day, according to the company. Customers can also partially offset monthly bill increases by participating in one or more of the company’s energy efficiency programs.
