Power purchase agreement approved for First Solar power plant

First Solar Inc. has been granted a power purchase agreement from the New Mexico Public Regulatory Commission, allowing the company to begin construction on New Mexico’s largest solar power plant, the company stated in a release.

Under the terms of the agreement, First Solar will provide 50 MW of solar power from its Macho Springs solar power project  to El Paso Electric Power for 25 years. The facility is located on state trust land in Luna County.

First Solar has submitted its final development plan and is expected to begin construction of the project in July. The 500 acre facility will operate on a commercial lease from the State Land Office.
