Farley nuclear unit back online after automatic shutdown

Plant Farley Southern Co Alabama Power nuclear Unit 1

Farley nuclear Unit 1 in Alabama was brought back to service on June 14 after an automatic shutdown.

Unit 1 shut down June 11 when a lightning arrestor failed on a transformer, according to plant owner Alabama Power, a unit of Southern Co (NYSE: SO). All safety systems designed as operated and there was no danger to the public.

Workers replaced all three lightning arrestors and power technicians tested the transformer to make sure it was operating properly. Unit 2 continued to operate at 100 percent power.
