Exelon ends plans to uprate two nuclear power plants

Exelon ends plans to uprate two nuclear power plants Limerick LaSalle Pennsylvania Illinois Wall Street Journal

Exelon Corp. (NYSE: EXC) said it is ending plans to upgrade two nuclear power plants, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The company is abandoning plans to expand production at the LaSalle plant in Illinois and the Limerick power plant in Pennsylvania because of low power prices and slow electricity demand growth, the article said. The company said in the WSJ that it would take a $100 million charge in the second quarter if it continued with the projects.

The company planned uprates at five of its nuclear power plants that would have netted an additional 1,500 MW of power generation by 2017.
