Spindrift Energy wave power prototype southern California California Energy Commission

Spindrift Energy has started machining components for its first prototype wave-powered system as part of an Energy Innovation Small Grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC).

Spindrift will construct and deploy the prototype off the southern California coast in 2013 along with a comprehensive report evaluating the prototype’s sea test for the grant and the CEC in December.

The prototype will only generate electricity for measurement and analysis purposes, but there will be an opportunity for a scale-up of the device.
