California set a new record output for solar power in the state at 12:59 p.m. last Friday, producing 2,071 MW, according to the California Independent System Operator (CISO).
CISO President and SEO Steve Berberich said the company expects to hit more record peaks on a regular basis, noting the peak hit last week was more than double the 1,000 MW solar peak in the state last September.
Total peak demand in California on the same day was about 36,000 MW, meaning solar power supplied more than five percent of the power demand in the state. California is the U.S.’s largest producer of solar power.
