APEX wind power project may be blocked by proposed county ordinance

APEX Wind Power Alabama county ordinance proposed Baldwin County

The Baldwin County Commission in Alabama is currently looking at an ordinance that would block a proposed 40-turbine wind farm from being built in the county, according to a report from the Alabama Media Group. The ordinance would prohibit any wind turbine that can produce 50 kW or more of energy.

Representatives from APEX Wind Power met with the commission in April to discuss the construction of the wind farm on 10,000 to 12,000 acres of land near Mobile, Ala. The commission has already passed a 180-day moratorium preventing the project, and the current plan is for the ordinance to be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a vote at its July 11 meeting, according to the report.

The ordinance, which was crafted by the director of the county’s Planning and Zoning Department, would also have to be approved by the Baldwin County Commission, the Alabama Media Group reported.
