Farley nuclear Unit 2 taken offline for scheduled outage

Southern Nuclear, a unit of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO), took Unit 2 at the Joseph Farley nuclear power plant in Alabama offline on April 14 for a scheduled refueling and maintenance outage. The unit last underwent a refueling outage in the fall of 2011.

In addition to refueling and performing maintenance and testing, workers will make upgrades to plant systems and components.

More than 800 additional workers from Westinghouse, GE (NYSE: GE), Williams and other companies are on site performing specialized tasks.
