EDF unit is now 100% owner of Texas wind project

EDF Renewable Energy Spinning spur II wind Power Project Texas Cielo GE Siemens

EDF Renewable Energy exercised an option to buy the remaining 49 percent interest in the 161 MW Spinning Spur II Wind Project in Texas from Cielo Wind Power LP. EDF Renewable now owns 100 percent of the wind farm.

EDF also signed a turbine supply agreement with GE (NYSE: GE) to purchase 87 wind turbines rated at 1.85 MW each. Construction on the project is scheduled to start in June 2013 with an operational date set for mid-summer 2014.

The first phase of the project entered commercial operation in late December and uses 70 Siemens (NYSE: SI) 2.3 MW turbines. The output is being sold to Southwestern Public Service Co. under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
